Batik Lokta Paper from Nepal
These patterns on these incredible papers are done entirely by hand, using the batik method. Wax is used as a resist on the paper, and then color is applied by hand wherever there is no wax. The wax is applied using carved wooden blocks for each pattern. Some patterns are colored in by two artisans who work on one sheet at the same time! These exquisite papers are beautiful in a window or used as lampshades, but they are also ideal for book covers, collage, luminaries, and all paper arts. The wax and the colors catch the light in a unique way, giving each sheet a luminous glow.
