We blend our highest quality pharmaceutical grade beeswax with a pure translucent white microcrystalline wax to produce Impasto Wax. Impasto wax offers new possibilities allowing you to inexpensively add actual dimension to encaustic painting for sculptural effects or simply texture. Using the "slip and score" technique common in ceramics, surfaces can easily become sculptural by applying chunks of wax in any form to the wax surface and then painting over with encaustic wax paint layers to encapsulate. The Slip and Score - technique refers to the method of scoring or scratching lines into the surface of the chunk of wax that will be attached to the substrate. After the lines are scratched in, the artist just has to dip the scored side into molten wax and stick it to the substrate. The lines provide extra surface areas to ensure a solid bond between the two sections
