Girault pastels are an exceptionally soft pastel with a slightly firmer
consistency than other brands. They are soft yet very smooth and dense.
Girault pastels are great for detail work but versatile enough to
effectively cover large areas. They can be used early in the painting or
throughout as they layer very well, and will not crumble. Looking at
these pastels, your first impressions are...they must be hard like
Nupastels because they look so uniform and precise like a machine made
stick. But once you try them...Wow! You will be delighted to find these
pastels incredibly soft, yet firm and do not crack or crumble. Girault
pastels are one of our most popular pastel lines. They offer a
tremendous range of portrait tones and in fact, have been endorsed by
well known pastelists, Daniel Greene. When a pastel artist visits our
shop for the first time, if they mention that they are portraiture
artists we immediately open the drawers to the Girault pastels and they
literally gasp with excitement. Landscape artists will be pleased to
find that Girault pastels are endorsed by Elizabeth Mowry, well known
artist and author of "The Poetic Landscape" and "The Pastelists Year".
With 300 colors to choose from, landscape and seascape artists alike
will be pleased with Girault's palette. This set offers all 300 colors
in packed in foam lined cardboard boxes. The Girault Pastel factory
began making pastels in 1780. The skills acquired by the early
pastelmakers have been handed down, generation to generation. This
companies dedication to consistency and quality means that today's
artists can benefit from Girault's reputation earned over the last 200
years. You will not be disappointed with these soft pastels. Seasoned
pastelists may recall these pastels under their former name Quentin de
la Tour. We carried them years ago, when they were packaged with a clear
plastic sleeve and imported into the US by Winsor & Newton. Many
pastelists were saddened by their 5 year disappearance. We are happy to
report they are back and here to stay.
