Schmincke has just introduced a fantastic new product. Liquid charcoal made from natural pigment (PBK 8). It’s created by charring fruit seeds; cherry pits, grape seeds and peach pits. Completely Vegan and Natural!
Schmincke combines this powdered charcoal with its high-quality gum arabic binder so it will behave like a traditional artists' watercolor. It has a gouache-like consistency and can be diluted with water to achieve varying shades and intensities. Depending on the substrate and the thickness of the layer, it can be wiped off by hand and removed with water. Oil painters can use it for underpainting so that subsequent paint layers do not become dirty or become less dirty than with conventional charcoal because the gum arabic binder provides better adhesion of the bound carbon pigments to the substrate.
Of course, the liquid charcoal can be combined with drawing charcoal or used like a watercolor.
The peach pit offers neutral black, the cherry pit a warm, brownish black and the grape seed a cool, bluish black. .
All three colors are available in 15-ml or 35-ml (now discontinued) tubes. Please note: Due to the fact that the pigments are natural products, there may be minimal color variations in each batch.
