Enkaustikos! Wax Art Supplies- Many painters have found encaustic painting an ideal medium for today's works of art. Encaustic painting offers incredible working properties. Artists can layer color upon color with immediacy, without concerns for "fat over lean". Both delicate layering of thin, transparent glazes and the creation of heavy impasto textures are attainable within minutes. Wax paints are warmed to 150 - 175 degrees Fahrenheit on a pancake griddle. Since you are working with liquid wax colors which cool instantly, drying time is a not a factor. Unlike other painting mediums, encaustic paintings can be reworked immediately or even years later simply with the addition of heat. Scratching techniques to reveal underlying colors or to add texture are accomplished quite easily. Surface textures and modeling are well known properties of wax medium. Fine detailed drawings are easy to achieve with the Enkaustikos Wax Pen. One of the often overlooked benefits of encaustic painting is that it is solvent free, eliminating the need for turpentine and mineral spirits. $Damar Resin...Enkaustikos uses Damar resin to produce a harder more durable paint film. Damar in combination with beeswax produces a paint film with a higher index of refraction. This is why encaustic colors appear so luminous. Enkaustikos uses No. 1 Singapore Damar Resin which is harvested from trees which grow in the East Indies. Damar Resin is a sticky sap that oozes from trees found in the East Indies. As the sap dries and solidifies it captures bugs dried leaves and tree bark. Damar Resin arrives to us in crystal form along with all of these imbedded impurities. This must be filtered out to make a usable product. Damar Resin is a very people and earth friendly ingredient. Damar resin is approved by the FDA for coating fruit and vegetable crates. Many encaustic recipes incorrectly suggest that an artist should use damar varnish. This is not a good idea because damar varnish is made with turpentine. We would like to emphasize that our wax paints are made with damar resin and not damar varnish. We heat filter out the impurities without the use of solvents. We do not recommend working with damar varnish because it contains turpentine which is not only flammable but also gives off unhealthy fumes.$	Damar Resin
